Reaching the far side, the Rangers moved up a low hill behind the town. Channon, the Ranger Executive Officer (XO), took charge of the two dismounted platoons and rapidly cleared the village. CPT Tidwell dismounted his 1st and 2nd Platoons, keeping 3rd Platoon in reserve with him. 1Īs the tanks approached the village, they began receiving small arms fire.
Tidwell, the Ranger Company Commander, loaded his men on the Charlie Company tanks (commanded by CPT Daniel Boone from Kentucky) and headed towards the village. The task force crossed the line of departure and moved north to clear the village of Kantongyon and the small valley beyond. In Korea, at 0700 hours on 11 April 1951, the 3rd Infantry Division (3rd ID) formed a task force composed of C Company, 64th Heavy Tank Battalion, F Company, 65th Infantry Regiment, and the 3rd Ranger Company.
